'Development of a method for manufacturing products of advanced functional ceramics: silicon carbide and silicon carbide oxide (SiC/SiOC) from precursors in the form of organosilicon resins’

Beneficiary: Prodigo sp. z o.o.

The aim of the project is to develop and verify under operational conditions a new technology for manufacturing ceramic materials, i.e. silicon carbide (SiC), silicon oxygen carbide (SiOC) and their composites with free carbon. The technology assumes the production of the above mentioned materials from precursors in the form of silicone resin, which are a waste product of the silicone paper production process (the main source), as well as other solid and dissolved organic silicone waste.

The starting point of the project is the results of tests carried out on a laboratory scale on organosilicon resin waste.

They indicate that the method used will allow the production of SiC/SIOC+C, which is characterised by quality specifications allowing for economic use while reducing its production costs.

The ultimate goal is to implement the technology in question (i.e. launch large-scale production). To this end, Prodigo proposes to build a pilot line for the use of the above-mentioned ceramic materials. Thanks to it, we intend to verify whether the specifications of the final product as well as the process of its production are achievable under laboratory conditions.

In addition to tasks related to testing in an operational environment, an industrial research task is planned to test other selected raw materials on a laboratory scale.
